I am the Principal for Secure Direction Consulting, LLC. I have been in the public safety and private security industries for nearly 30 years. Before transitioning into security management, I was a Police Captain, serving 23 years with the South Miami, Florida Police Department. During my law enforcement career, I served in a variety of specialized units and gained significant managerial experience as a supervisor, middle manager, and senior commanding officer.

I hold an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Social and Criminal Justice. Additionally, I am a graduate of the prestigious Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course from the University of Louisville. Upon transitioning to the private security profession, I was hired as the Corporate Security Manager for Baptist Health South Florida where I served as an internal consultant for security and emergency preparedness to six hospitals and a multitude of outpatient/non- hospital facilities.

I am Board Certified in both Security Management (CPP) and in Security Consulting (CSC), as well as being a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) and Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP).

I continue to research and have developed a course on workplace violence prevention and education. Furthering my training in this area, I studied for and achieved the Workplace Violence Prevention Specialist Certification from the National Association of Safety Professionals.

I am a member of several professional associations including ASIS International, where I serve on both the Healthcare Security Council, helping to develop guidelines and standards for the industry; and the Transitions Council, aiding police and military veterans transitioning into the private sector. I am the published author of a book and multiple industry articles. I am frequently called upon by a variety of media for interviews on security related topics. I volunteer providing advice, guidance, and mentoring to transitioning law enforcement and military personnel who wish to enter the private sector security field.
